Behrend Track & Field Teams Compete at Baldwin-Wallace Invitational

The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track & field teams competed on April 24 at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational in the final meet before upcoming conference championships.  The blue and white had several athletes come through with solid performances in the unscored meet.

Head Coach Greg Cooper said, "I was pleased with the meet as several athletes performed well.  Our teams faced strong competition at Baldwin-Wallace, which was a good tune-up for the conference championships this coming weekend."

For the women Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) had a season's best mark in the pole vault, clearing 9' 10" and also placed ninth in the 200 meter dash.  Angela Ferree (York Haven/Red Lion) turned in a season's best in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 13:22.40.  Dana Turley (Sarver/Freeport) also hit a season's best by running 1:06.66 in the 400 meter hurdles which was good for sixth place.  Other strong performances included Amanda Wehrle (Rossiter/Punxsutawney) who was eleventh in the 400 meter dash and Katie White (Warren/Warren) who finished thirteenth in the javelin.

For the men, Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) won the 110 meter hurdles with a season's best time of 15.55 seconds, which was also an ECAC qualifying time.  Teammate Mike Stark (Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) finished third in the same event with a ECAC qualifying time of 15.75 seconds.  Michael Johnson (Clearfield/Clearfield) hit a career-best in the 400 meter hurdles by finishing in 57.32 seconds which earned a second place finish and was the second-best Behrend time ever.  Denny Kang (South Park/South Park) hit a NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault by clearing 15' 5" which earned a second place finish.  Behrend athletes finished 2-3-4 in the pole vault as Eston Winn (Erie/McDowell) and Stark had ECAC qualifying marks by clearing 14' 5.25" on Saturday.  Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) had a season's best leap of 22'9.75" in the long jump which was an ECAC qualifying mark and earned him a second-place finish. 

Also for the men, Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin) ran a career-best 50.29 seconds in the 400 meter dash, while Steel Flynn (Butler/Butler) ran 10:36.60 and Alex Myers (Oakmont/Neshannock) came in at 10:51.30 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, both hitting season's best times. 

The Behrend track & field teams next compete at the Mason Dixon Conference Championship meet April 30-May 1 hosted by Salisbury University in Maryland.  A season ago the men finished and women each finished third at the conference championship meet.
