Behrend Track & Field Sweeps AMCC Weekly Awards; Tingley Named Pitcher of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's and women's track & field athletes swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, while softball sophomore pitcher Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Senior Madison Kappeler (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) kicked off the Carnegie Mellon Invite with an AARTFC qualifying clearance of 11-3 for fourth place in the pole vault. She was a member of the 4x1 relay team that tallied a fifth-place finish with a time of 51.40. Kappeler completed her solid start to the outdoor season with a score of 15-11 3/4 in the long jump for eighth place to notch Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Ivy Laffan (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) ran a 10th place time of 1:02.75 in the 400m on Saturday. She was also a member of the 4x1 relay team that finished fifth with a time of 51.40 to secure Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week went to Kody Klein (North East, PA/Cathedral Prep), who finished with an AARTFC qualifying time of 1:55.51 en route to a fourth-place finish in the 800m at Carnegie Mellon.

Thrower Dan Dabrowski (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) tallied a first-place finish at Carnegie Mellon with an AARTFC qualifying score of 167-07 in the discus to register Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Tingley recorded her second shutout of the season and sixth win by allowing just three hits over seven innings for a complete game in game one vs. John Carroll. Tingley also delivered her 100th career strikeout, fanning eight in the Lions victory.

Behrend track & field is back in action this Saturday at Slippery Rock, while softball begins conference play at Mount Aloysius this weekend.
