Lions Win Twice at Battlefield Classic; Sperry Named All-Tournament Team

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) recorded a combined 28 kills to go with eight digs to help the Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team defeat Rutgers Camden and Cedar Crest on day two of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College.

For her efforts over the weekend, Sperry was named to the All-Tournament Team. As a squad, the Lions swept both teams, starting with the Rutgers Camden Raptors 25-18, 25-12 and 25-21. Sperry led with 16 kills and Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) posted 22 digs in the match. Catherine Healy (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) knocked in six aces and three blocks.

In the second match, Behrend downed the Falcons 25-12, 25-15 and 25-9. Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum), who recorded 21 assists against Rutgers-Camden, managed to add 20 more assists for the day to go with six aces. Sperry posted 12 kills and eight digs, while Ashley Solo (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) added eight digs and one ace.  

The Lions return home on Saturday for a tri-match, beginning at 12 p.m.
