Lions Defeat Frostburg St., Fall to Case Western at Allegheny Gator Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Catherine Healy (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) posted 23 kills and Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) had 37 digs to help the Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Allegheny Gator Invitational.

The Lions (6-5) shut out previous AMCC foe Frostburg State in the second match of the day, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14, while Case Western go the best of Behrend to start the day, 3-1 (19-25, 18-25, 25-22, 12-25).

Healy had a flawless hitting day, recording 14 kills with no errors against the Bobcats. Storino tallied 12 digs and Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) registered 33 assists. Alyssa Pears (Meadville, PA/Meadville), playing in her hometown, added seven kills and Ashley Solo (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) managed to knock in five kills.

Against Case Western, Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) led with 12 kills and 10 digs. Healy contributed nine kills to go with two blocks and Storino had a team-best 25 digs. Pears also helped out defensively with 10 digs.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at Franciscan along with Penn State Altoona. The quad match begins at 12 p.m.
