Lions Roll To A Pair of AMCC Wins

STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team won their first two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matches, defeating both Penn State Altoona and Franciscan 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (8-5, 2-0 AMCC) first defeated Altoona 25-14, 25-10, 20-25 and 25-20, before handing Franciscan a 25-16, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-16 loss. Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) had a season-best 49 assists and Alyssa Pears (Meadville, PA/Meadville) led with 15 kills and three blocks against the Lions.

Mary Sperry (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) added 13 kills, while Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) added 11 kills. Catherine Healy (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) was the fourth player in double-digit kills with 10.

In the win over Franciscan, Sperry had a double-double with 10 kills and 22 digs. Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) tallied 26 digs and Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) posted 16 digs. Healy completed the day with 27 kills adding 17 against the Barons.

Magnusen continued to rack up the assists, dishing out 36 helpers in the second match.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Medaille. Match begins at 7 p.m.
