Women's Volleyball Defeats Oberlin; Falls to Westiminster in Season Opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team defeated Oberlin 3-0, while falling to Westminster 3-0 in the season opening matches at the Westminster Volleyball Tournament on Friday night.

The Lions (1-1) posted a 25-18, 25-16 and 25-22 victory against Oberlin, but dropped a 25-21, 25-19 and 25-16 decision to the Titans on opening night. Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) recorded 49 out of the teams 57 assists for the two matches. Her game high came against the Yeowomen with 28 helpers.

Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) combined for 20 kills, including 12 in the win over Oberlin. Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) tallied six blocks and Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) recorded 18 digs.

Against Westminster, Magnusen knocked in seven kills along with Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). Tory Storino (Pittsburg, PA/Baldwin) registered a team-best 22 digs.

Behrend is back in action on tomorrow against Baldwin Wallace and Wooster on the second day of the Westminster Tournament. Match times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
