Lions Defeat Keystone, D'Youville

MORRISVILLE, NY - The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team have not lost since their first match of the season to improve to 8-1 with a pair of wins on the opening day of the Morrisville State Tournament on Saturday.

The Lions defeated Keystone (25-11, 25-12 and 25-16) and D'Youville (25-16, 25-16, 25-12). It seemed Behrend never let either team into the match for their sixth and seventh shut-out victories.

Against Keystone, Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) led the attack with nine kills and a team-best six aces. Senior Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) tallied 25 assists, six digs, three aces and three blocks.

Defensively, Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) recorded 16 digs and Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) added seven.

In the win over the Spartans, Magnusen was clutch like the first match. She registered 23 assists, seven digs, four kills and two blocks. Samarco had identical numbers in kills with nine with two blocks and two aces.

Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) posted eight kills and Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) was able to dabble in three statistical categories with seven kills, five assists and four blocks.

Freshman Amber Ricci (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) and Allania Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) had eight and six digs, respectively.
