Volleyball Goes Undefeated; Pisano Reaches 200 Career Victories

MORRISVILLE, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team went undefeated at the Morrisville State Tournament this weekend, finishing the second day with shut-out wins over Cobleskill and Morrisville, 3-0 on Sunday.

Only needing 10 wins to reach 200 career victories, head coach Phil Pisano not only led the Lions (10-1) to the 4-0 weekend but he reached that mark in the final match against Morrisville (25-15, 25-17, 25-11). Behrend posted a 25-16, 25-16 and 25-17 win to start the day against Cobleskill.

Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) was named the Tournament MVP, while Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) earned Libero of the Tournament. Freshman Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Magnusen was two aces away from a triple-double in the first match. She dished out 21 assists, 11 digs and a career-high eight aces. Storino contributed 15 digs and Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) had 13 digs. Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) had seven kills and six assists, while Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) made six kills.

In the second victory of the day, Scurpa led with 10 kills and three blocks. Magnusen completed her weekend with 28 assists and Storino got 17 digs.  Samarco posted seven kills, three blocks and Allania Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) had double-digit digs with 10.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at Hiram. Match starts at 7 p.m.
