Samarco Leads Volleyball Past Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) hit an impression .800 with 12 kills on 15 attempts and no errors to lead Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team past Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday night.

The Lions (18-7, 7-0 AMCC) recorded a .305 attack percentage and tied their season best with 11 team blocks to help defeat the Panthers (8-16, 3-3 AMCC) in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-12).

Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) added nine kills and six block assists, while Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) was the only player with double-digit digs (13) to surpass 1,000 digs for her career.

For Pitt-Bradford, Brittni Cumberland tallied 12 digs and nine assists.

Samarco paced Behrend in the first set, earning six of her 12 kills including the final three points for an early 25-15 win.

With the Lions holding a small 10-9 lead in the second set, Behrend went on a 15-3 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Allania Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) served seven straight points, getting a pair of aces.

In the third set, Bean went 5-for-8 to go with three blocks. The team hit .429 and only had three errors to earn the victory 25-12.

Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) managed 28 assists on 35 kills. She also posted five kills, four digs, two aces and two blocks.  

The Lions return to action on Saturday for senior day against Mt. Aloysius. Match begins at 1 p.m.
