Senior Shine in Win Over Mt. Aloysius

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team secured the top seed and hosting rights for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs with a 3-0 win over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday afternoon in the Junker Center.

The Lions (19-7, 8-0 AMCC) posted a 25-6, 25-16 and 25-7 win over the Mounties (6-22, 0-8 AMCC) to put themselves one conference win away from their second undefeated season in AMCC play.

Lindsay Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) and Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) each hit over .500 and did not commit one attack error on the day. Bean led with 10 kills, while Synder and Samarco each had six.

Celebrating senior day, Tory Storino (Pittsburgh, PA/Norwin) tallied a game-high 17 digs and Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) contributed 20 assists, five digs and two aces.

As a team, Behrend did not have one attack error and only allowed Mt. Aloysius to get one point on their attack in the first set leading to a 25-6 victory. Magnusen got the Lions out to an 11-0 lead on her serve and Ashley Solo (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) posted five kills to take a 1-0 lead.

Samarco followed in Magnusen's footsteps to start the second set, getting Behrend to a 7-0 advantage on the serve.  The Mounties had three services aces and three kills, but eventually fell 25-16.

Bean did the damage in the third set to clinch the victory for Behrend. She had six kills on seven attacks and Storino tallied seven digs to keep Mt. Aloysius off the board for a 25-7 win.

In addition to digs, Storino earned four aces. Snyder also added seven assists, three blocks and two digs.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday at Fredonia State. Match begins at 7 p.m.
