No. 1 Calvin Too Much For Lions

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Maggie Kamp registered a game-high 12 kills (.423) to lead top-ranked Calvin past Penn State Behrend 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's volleyball tournament on Thursday night.

The Knights (30-1) hit .395 as a team, helping them advance to the regional semifinals with a 25-4, 25-15, 25-8 decision to end the Lions (22-9) season.

Behrend was led by Chelsea Magnusen (Plum, PA/Plum) with 13 assists and Tory Storino (Pittsburg, PA/Baldwin) tallied nine digs.

Calvin served up 18 straight points to start the first set, recording 11 kills in the run to take the large lead and hold on for a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, the Lions got within two points at 12-10, but the Knights used a 13-5 spurt down the stretch to go ahead, 2-0.

The first set was much like the third. Calvin jumped out to a 12-3 lead and went on to post a 25-8 victory.
