Women's Volleyball Serves Past D'Youville
The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team registered a season-best 13 aces in a 3-0 win over D’Youville in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night at the Junker Center.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team registered a season-best 13 aces in a 3-0 win over D'Youville in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night at the Junker Center.
The Lions (18-10, 5-3 AMCC) are one win closer to securing a spot in the AMCC Tournament with a convincing 25-11, 25-8 and 25-14 victory. The win marks the second shut-out victory over the Spartans (8-16, 0-8 AMCC) this season.
Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) recorded a career-high six aces to go along with six kills, three assists and three digs. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) made four aces and posted a game-high 11 digs.
Behrend set the tone early with a quick 20-7 lead in the first set thanks to a string of three kills by Lauren Blachowski (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North). From there, the Lions got a kill from Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) and Blachowski while relying on D'Youville errors to win 25-11.
Snyder started the second set with 10 straight serves that included four aces and two kills by Samarco for a 10-1 advantage. Behrend held the Spartans to just eight points to go ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-8 score.
D'Youville hung in the third set, keeping it close in the opening points at 8-7. The Lions slowly pulled away and ended with a 25-14 decision to seal the match.
Samarco finished with 10 kills and 10 digs for her 20th double-double of the season.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday in a key AMCC match at Franciscan, beginning at 1 p.m.
