Franciscan Edges Women's Volleyball in Five Sets

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Franciscan women's volleyball team posted a 3-2 (25-16, 25-23, 24-26, 12-25, 16-14) win over Penn State Behrend in the final regular-season Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match on Saturday.

The Lions (18-11, 5-4 AMCC) secured the No. 5 seed for the upcoming AMCC Tournament and will travel to No. 4 Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday night in a first-round match.

In a crucial AMCC match that determined seedings for the conference tournament, the Barons were able to hold off Behrend for the No. 2 seed and a bye in the quarterfinals.

Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) and Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) each recorded a double-double to lead the Lions. Snyder ended with 11 kills, 10 digs and four aces, while Samarco tallied 19 kills, 16 digs and four aces.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) dished out 45 assists and Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) registered a team-best 21 digs.

As a team, the Lions posted 16 kills in the third set and hit a team-best .364 in the fourth to get the match to a fifth set.
