Volleyball Sweeps Pitt-Bradford; Lions Face Altoona in AMCC Semifinals

BRADFORD, Pa. – The No. 5 seed Penn State Behrend upset No. 4 Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament on Wednesday night.
The Lions (19-11), who fell to the Panthers in a close 3-2 match earlier in the year, got revenge with a sweep by scores 25-22, 25-13 and 25-21. Behrend now advances to the semifinals on Saturday to face top-seeded Penn State Altoona at 2 p.m.
Alyssa Samarco (Plum, PA/Plum) posted her eight straight double-double and 21st overall this season with 10 kills and 17 digs. Freshman setter Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) led with 28 assists, 10 digs and three blocks.
Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) added seven kills and three blocks, while Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) tallied 13 digs. Other offensive contributors include Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) with seven kills and Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) with five kills.
Kylie McSwaney (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) tallied four blocks and four kills in the win.
The Lions will travel to Altoona on Saturday for the AMCC semifinals.
