Women's Volleyball Wins Twice at AMCC Quad Match

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg and Mt. Aloysius to open up the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon at Pitt-Bradford.

The Lions (8-8) defeated Pitt-Greensburg in the first match 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-21) and then posted a 3-1 decision over Mt. Aloysius (21-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14). Behrend was nearly flawless against the Bobcats, only committing a total of 10 errors for the match and one in the second set.

Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) and Maddie Auld (Peters Township, PA/Peters Township) led with nine kills apiece. Frye tallied nine kills on 14 attempts with no errors. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) recorded 23 digs and team-best four aces. Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) was second on the team with 10 digs. She also dished out 26 assists.

Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny Clarion Valley) had seven blocks and seven kills in match one. She then came back with a career-high 11 blocks in the win over the Mounties.

The Lions were down the first set and came back to capture the next three sets to earn their second conference win of the day. Hopson added seven aces to the four she had in the first match. She also posted 13 digs.

Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) led with 16 kills, nine digs and two aces. Auld registered eight kills, 12 digs, four blocks and two aces. Saunders dished out 29 assists and added six digs and four blocks.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Pitt-Bradford. Match begins at 7 p.m.
