Fredonia State Defeats Lions in Four

ERIE, Pa. – The Fredonia State women's volleyball team won three unanswered sets after falling in the first to defeat Penn State Behrend 3-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The Lions (11-9) won by two points in the first set at 25-23 but could not keep the momentum going into the final three sets. The Blue Devils (16-5) were victorious 25-20, 25-18 and 25-20 for the win.

Sara Madison led Fredonia St. (16-5) with 18 kills and no errors on 52 attempts. The Blue Devils also had four players in double-figure digs led by Lauren Hokaj with 24.

For Behrend, Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with a team-best 14 kills and a new career high 27 digs. Her previous high of 26 was set last night against Grove City.

Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) made it her second game in a row with 13 kills. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) had 26 digs and three assists. Setter Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) led with 31 assists, seven digs, five kills and two aces in the four-set match.

The Lions returns to action on Friday at the Union Tournament.
