Women's Volleyball Falls to Medaille
Susan Muldoon and Amanda Ruszczyk had double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively, to lead Medaille women’s volleyball team past Penn State Behrend 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday evening.
BUFFALO, NY – Susan Muldoon and Amanda Ruszczyk had double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively, to lead Medaille women's volleyball team past Penn State Behrend 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday evening.
The Mavericks (14-5, 4-1 AMCC) posted a 25-16, 25-15, 25-12 victory and hit .349 as a team to knock the Lions (13-12, 5-1 AMCC) down from the undefeated ranks in conference play.
Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) had five kills and 11 digs for Behrend. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) led with 13 digs and Ashley Solo (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) added 12 digs.
In the first set, the Lions held a one-point lead throughout up until 15-14 after a kill by Lindsey Bean (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). Medaille regained a four-point edge and used an attack error and then an ace by Hannah Johnson to earn a 25-16 win.
The Mavericks darted out to a 10-point lead in the second set and stayed there for a 2-0 lead in the match and then used the latter part of the third set to pull away for a 25-12 decision and the sweep.
Medaille registered 15 kills in each set, while limiting Behrend to 24 kills.
Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) dished out 14 assists to go with three digs, two kills and one block.
The Lions return to action on Saturday at Penn State Altoona. Match begins at 1 p.m.
