Altoona Posts 3-0 Win Over Lions

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team came up short against Penn State Altoona, falling 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (13-11, 6-1 AMCC) extended their consecutive regular-season home winning streak to 17 with a 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22 victory over the Lions (13-13, 5-2AMCC).

Altoona was led by Becky Britton with 13 kills and 19 digs.

Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) had a third of Behrend's kills with a team-best 10. Courtney Hopson (Erie, PA/McDowell) added 15 digs and one ace.

Behrend led for most of the first set and Altoona was able to make a comeback at the right time and towards the end, winning three of the last four points for a 25-22 decision.

The Lady Lions never trailed in the second, but the Lions erased a 10-point deficit to tie it up at 21-all. Altoona held off Behrend down the stretch for a 2-0 lead in the match. In another close and final set, the Lady Lions made the points count with the match on the line and pulled out a 25-22 win.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at D'Youville. Match begins at 7 p.m.
