Baldwin Wallace Earns Three-Set Win Over Lions

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace women's volleyball team registered double-digit kills in each set to defeat Penn State Behrend 3-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

Alicia Lortcher led with 13 digs and 12 kills to give the Yellow Jackets (5-0) a 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 victory over the Lions (2-3). Ellen Hawkins also added to the attack with a .611 hitting percentage with 11 kills on 18 attempts with no errors.

Behrend got seven kills apiece from Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) and Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette), while Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) and Lexi Irwin tallied a team-best seven digs.

In the first set, BW broke an 8-all tie with three straight points and then used another 6-0 run to finish for a 25-15 win.

The Lions had a two-point lead to begin the second set, but the Yellow Jackets quickly jumped out to a 19-8 lead en route to a 25-12 decision and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Behrend stayed within two points of BW in the third set. Similar to the first set, the Yellow Jackets went on a 7-0 run getting three kills from Hawkins to close out the match with a 25-14 victory.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) recorded 18 assists, five digs and three kills.

The Lions return to action on Friday for the Northwest PA Challenge hosted by Behrend and Allegheny. The Lions face St. Vincent at 4 p.m.
