Women's Volleyball Defeats Alfred and D'Youville at St. John Fisher Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on the first night of the St. John Fisher Tournament on Friday night.

The Lions first defeated Alfred 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25) before taking D'Youville in five sets (14-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11) in the nightcap. Four players registered double-digit kills against the Saxons, led by Meredith Snyder's (Parker, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) 12 kills and 14 digs.

Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette), Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) and Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) all recorded 11 kills. Henry added nine digs and Saunders dished out 38 assists. Julie Pace (Erie, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) had a team-best four aces and 10 digs in the win.

Behrend split sets with the Spartans and then earned a 15-11 victory in the decisive set for the non-conference win against the AMCC team. Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) paced the Lions 15 kills and 21 digs for the double-double. Snyder added 12 kills and 12 digs to give her 24 kills and 26 digs for the evening.

Saunders tallied 42 assists, 12 digs and four blocks, while Alexandra Parra (Pittsburgh, PA/Bishop Canevin) also had four blocks.

Behrend returns to action today against Buffalo State at 10 a.m. and St. John Fisher at 12 p.m.
