Women's Volleyball Competes in Knights Fall Classic

ASTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team defeated Kings 3-2, but fell in three other matches at the Knights Fall Classic hosted by Neumann over the weekend.

Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) was named to the All-Tournament Team for registering 47 kills in four matches, knocking down double-digit kills in three to earn the honors.

The Lions (10-11) dropped a pair of matches on Friday night. Behrend fell 3-2 to Washington (11-25, 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 15-5) and St. Mary's (MN) 3-0 (25-20, 30-28, 25-23). In today's matches, the Lions had the chips fall into place against Kings (25-19, 15-25, 26-24, 13-25, 15-13) and then dropped a 3-1 decision to Scranton (25-21, 18-25, 14-25, 17-25).

Against the Shorewomen in the first match of the weekend, Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) had a team-best 18 kills followed by Frye with 15. Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) had a double-double with 41 assists and 23 digs. Paige Scurpa (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) had a game-high 26 digs.

Scurpa came back to post a double-double against St. Mary's with 10 kills and 10 digs. Frye tallied eight kills and Saunders registered 23 assists, eight digs and seven kills.

Against Kings, Frye and Henry each knocked down 13 kills in the win. Henry also added four aces. Saunders dished out 33 assists to go with six kills and four blocks. Scurpa helped out defensively once again with 21 digs.

In the final match, Saunders had an identical 33 assists and six kills against Scranton Henry led with 12 kills and Frye posted 11 kills. Meredith Snyder (Parker, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) registered 18 digs and Julie Pace (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) made 15 digs.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against D'Youville. The AMCC match begins at 7 p.m.
