Pitt-Bradford Defeats Women's Volleyball

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team dropped their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match of the season 3-0 to Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday night at the Junker Center.

Riley Anderson and Emily Cleveland each tallied 10 kills for the Panthers (6-11, 2-1 AMCC), who won by scores 25-23, 25-17 and 25-21.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) distributed 24 assists and Keely Hering (North East, PA/North East) added eight kills, while Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) led with 12 digs for the Lions (5-9, 0-1 AMCC).

In the first set, Behrend held a small three-point lead at 7-4 after a kill from Hering. Pitt-Bradford went on a 10-2 run to pull ahead 14-9. Behrend rallied with a run of its own (8-3) to even the match at 17-all. A few attack errors and akill from Payton Orzech put the Panthers ahead for good. A pair of kills from Cleveland got Pitt-Bradford to set point and another kill by Ally Easton made it 25-23.

The second set was played out like the first with a Behrend lead and Pitt-Bradford making its way back to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match. At 11-7 in favor of the Lions, the Panthers outscored Behrend 11-1 to turn it around at 18-12. Three kills from Pitt-Bradford closed out the set at 25-17.

Both teams went point-for-point until midway through the third set where the Panthers took advantage of five errors to take a 16-12 lead.  The Lions could not recover enough with a pair of kills from Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) at the end to fall 25-21.

Behrend is back in action on Saturday at Penn State Altoona with Wilkes. Match begins at 1 p.m.
