Women's Volleyball Wins Key AMCC Match

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team picked up their fourth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) win with a 3-0 decision over Franciscan on Saturday afternoon in the Junker Center.

The Lions (14-11, 4-3 AMCC) have won nine of their last 10 matches, including back-to-back AMCC shut outs, this time defeating the Barons (5-15, 4-3 AMCC) 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17. Emily Archer (Butler, PA/Butler) registered her third double-digit kills match with 10. Setter Hannah Sanders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) handed out 26 assists with 10 digs for the double-double.

Behrend took a six-point lead at 19-13 in the first set that would not relinquish. Two kills from Archer and another by Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski), while Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) served up an ace to get the Lions to 25-18.

Franciscan held a small 14-13 advantage in the second set thanks to a service ace from Maria Ciola. The Lions got the next three points off a Barons error and a kill from Kylie McSwaney (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) and Frye to get out front and stay. Franciscan closed in at 20-19 but five of the next six points went to Behrend for a 25-20 win.

The Barons took the early lead in the third, getting to eight first at 8-6. The Lions went on a 10-3 run to turn the set around and make it 16-11. A kill from Alex Parra (Pittsburgh, PA/Bishop Canevin) and two from Archer sealed the match at 25-17.

Frye finished with seven kills and Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) tallied a game-high 16 digs.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at Medaille. Match time is 7 p.m.
