Women's Volleyball Sweeps Medaille; Lions Win Fourth Straight

BUFFALO, NY – Amanda Henry (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) tallied 13 dig, seven kills and six aces to lead the Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team past Medaille 3-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday.

The Lions (15-11, 5-3 AMCC) have shut out their last three conference opponents, including a 25-17, 25-12 and 25-20 win over the Mavericks for their fourth straight victory.

Hannah Saunders (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) registered her eighth double-double of the season with 27 assists and 10 kills.

Falling behind 3-0 in the first set, Behrend won the next seven points to take a four-point lead and force a Medaille timeout. The Lions never trailed again and pulled out to a 20-12 advantage. Behrend won its final offensive points with kills from Saunders, Rachel Frye (Leechburg, PA/Kiski) and Emily Archer (Butler, PA/Butler).

The Lions found themselves down again to begin the second set at 4-2. From there, Behrend only allowed eight more points by the Mavericks to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a commanding 25-12 win.

In the third set, the Lions took control with a 6-1 start. Jordan Harakal (Peters Township, PA/Peters Township) had back-to-back kills to make it 12-4. Medaille hung on, winning four straight points down the stretch to pull within four at 24-20. After a Behrend timeout, Frye knocked in the match-winning kill.

Frye finished with eight kills and five digs, while Archer added nine kills. Libero Madison Clapper (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) led with 20 digs.

The Lions return to action on Saturday in the regular-season finale against Mt. Aloysius. Senior day begins at 1 p.m.
