AVCA Team Academic Awards Announced
The Penn State Behrend men's and women's volleyball teams have earned the United State Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's and women's volleyball teams have earned the United State Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season.
The women received the honor for the sixth time in program history, while the men garnered the accolades for the second straight year. Despite not having a regular season, the women's team continued to have success off the court and in the classroom. On the men's side, the Lions posted a 6-7 overall record and advanced to the AMCC Championships, falling to Hiram 3-2. Behrend had four players named to the All-AMCC squad.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. The women were among 233 Division III teams, an all-time record for the membership. The men were included with 35 other schools.
