Behrend Women's Volleyball Advances to the AMCC Finals

ALFRED, NY - The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team, seeded second in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament, spotted #3 seed Mt. Aloysius a one-set lead before storming back to claim a 3-1 win in the conference semifinals Saturday. The scores were 19-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-17. The Lions, 14-12, have now won five straight, their longest winning streak of the year. They have the opportunity of battling for their third straight AMCC crown tomorrow. The Mounties, who bowed at Behrend 3-0 a week ago, fell to 11-17. Top seed Alfred State, which outlasted #5 Penn State Altoona 3-2 in the opening semifinal match, will play Behrend Sunday afternoon. A trip to the NCAAs will be on the line. Alfred State beat Behrend 3-0 October 12 at home, but all three sets were highly competitive. Behrend had the better record in kills (53-40, hitting % (.279 to .108), blocks (9-4) and service aces (7-5). Junior Hannah Phillips finished with 16 kills and now has a team-leading 314. She also toppedher teammates Saturday with 17.5 points. Senior Brooke Joncas (Corry, PA/Corry) was next with 17. Junior Meg Goodsel (Corry PA/Corry) chipped in with 43 assists and has now accumulated 546 for the season.

* Behrend is now 10-8 away from home
* Of the 14 wins, Saturday's 3-1 verdict was the third such decision this season
* Mt. Aloysius was trying for its second straight playoff win ever
* The Mounties defeated LaRoche 3-1 in the first round
