Lions Drop Two Tough Games

GROVE CITY, Pa. –The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team dropped two games to Utica and Grove City, Friday but look to rebound in tomorrow's matchups.

In the first game, Utica held on to a 7-0 lead until late in the third quarter when Paula Rusca tallied the Lions (0-2) first goal. Needing scores, MaryEllen Spooner stepped up to net Behrend's final goal of the night, 7-2. Watching their lead slip away, the Pioneers responded with four goals to close the game out. Utica went on to win 11-2.

Spooner returned to the score book in the night's second matchup against Grove City posting two more goals in the first and third quarters. Spooner was the only Lion to tally as the women fell to the Wolverines (3-5), 17-2.

The women will return to action on March 5 at 4:30 to take on Connecticut.

 

NEW YORK, NY –The Penn State Behrend men and women's track and field team performed well on the first day of the ECAC Tournament hosted by New York University at Armory Track & Field Center, Friday.
In the women's only event of the day, Katie Spade, Amanda Wehrle, Jenna Fatica, and Liz Keller ran the distance medley relay in 12:34.69, smashing the groups past record of 12:41.18 set back in January.
Mike Stark and Eston Winn tied for 9th place in the men's pole vault event, clearing 14' 11.5". Stark later returned to the track in the 55-hurdles, clocking 7.86 seconds to place 10th.
Behrend will return to action tomorrow to close out the 2011 ECAC In-door Championships.
