Women's Water Polo Drops Two Decisions

ERIE, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team dropped two contests at the Behrend Invitational on Saturday. The Lions fell to Gannon 13-3 and then 11-7 to Chatham.

MaryEllen Spooner and Kendell Duffy each scored three goals in two contests, while Paula Rusca added two goals.

In the first game, the Golden Knights scored five goals in the first quarter and six more in the second for an 11-2 halftime lead. Rachael Ragen netted her first collegiate goal for Behrend in the third quarter.

Even though the Lions scored first against Chatham, the Cougars were able to net four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.  Defense was the name of the game in the second quarter with no goals scored and each team added two apiece in the third to keep it a four-goal game. Rusca and Duffy both scored in the third.

In the fourth quarter, Behrend put away the first four out of six goals to cut the lead to 9-7.  Chatham was able to score the last two goals for the final 11-7 margin.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Mercyhurst at the Grove City Invitational. Game time is 10:30 a.m.
