Lions Fall to Macalester, 12-4

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to Macalester 12-4 on Friday evening at the Division III Championships at Grove City.

In their second game of the day, the Lions (0-20) could not overcome a 4-0 first quarter deficit to catch the Scots.

Heading into the second quarter, Behrend used a strong defensive effort to keep the contest close.  The two teams traded one goal each with Macalester holding a 5-1 advantage at the break.

The Scots pushed their lead to 6-2 before MaryEllen Spooner (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) found the back of the net at the 4:50 mark.  Macalester would score three unanswered goals in the final four minutes to take command.  The Scots outscored Behrend 3-1 in the final quarter to earn the victory.

Spooner netted a hat trick to lead the Lions.  Lindsay Musoleno (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) contributed one.  Elizabeth Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) played well in net, recording double-digit saves for the second consecutive game with 11.

Behrend will play Utica tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. at Grove City.
