Women’s Water Polo Falls in Season Opener

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell in their season opener on Friday evening to VMI, 13-3.

The Lions (0-1) were led by Emily Spicher (Falls Creek, PA/DuBois) who had three field blocks, two steals, and two goals.

After the opening quarter, Behrend trailed 9-2, but held VMI to just four total goals in the second and third.  However, the Lions were only able to net one goal over the final three quarters.

Sarah Jelinek (Warren, PA/Warren) netted the other Behrend goal and also recored an assist. Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell), playing in her first collegiate contest, had three steals, one assist, and one field block.  Paula Rusca (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) tallied a team-high five steals and dished out an assist.

Elizabeth Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) played well in net with eight saves and three steals.

Behrend will be back in action tomorrow at Grove City.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
