ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team was defeated by Washington and Jefferson 12-6 in their final match of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Weekend.

The Presidents netted eight first-half goals and held the Lions (0-9) to just two goals in the second have to earn the win.

Behrend kept the game close in the first half, but still trailed by four at the break.  Washington and Jefferson outscored the Lions 4-2 in both the first and second quarters.  With the second half underway, Behrend tried to chip away at the lead with a single goal in both the third and the fourth.  The Lions' season-high six goals were just not enough to catch the Presidents.

MaryEllen Spooner (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) led the Behrend offense with four goals.  Paula Rusca (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) and Hannah Kelly (Elizabeth, PA/South Allegheny) each contributed one goal.  Kelly also had two assists on the day as did Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell).  Elizabeth Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) made eight saves and tallied five steals.

The Lions will be back in action Wednesday to host Mercyhurst at 8 p.m.
