Lions Defeat Caltech to Earn First Win of 2014

PASADENA, Ca. – The first win of the season for the Penn State Behrend women's water polo team was a come from behind affair.

Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored three times for the Lions, who closed their California trip on a spectacular note with a 6-5 victory over Caltech on Tuesday night.

Behrend (1-6) trailed 2-0 after one quarter and 3-2 at the break, but did not relent. They outscored the Beavers (0-2) 2-0 in the final quarter to complete the comeback win.

Pinter and Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored the fourth quarter goals and Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) and the Lions defense clamped down on Caltech to preserve the victory. It was Causgrove who scored the game winner with just 1:36 remaining in the contest.

Causgrove scored twice in all and Breanne Martinez (La Mirada, CA/St. Joseph) added the other Behrend goal.

The Lions outshot the Beavers 21-18 in the game.

Stegmann made six saves in net for Behrend, who will participate in the CWPA Regional Tournament in Utica, NY this weekend.
