Lions Compete at CWPA Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell three times on Saturday at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional Tournament.

In game one, the Lions dropped a heartbreaker to Utica, 5-4.

Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) opened up the scoring with the lone first half goal, giving Behrend a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers outscored the Lions 2-0 in the third period, and despite fourth quarter goals from Hannah Kelly (Elizabeth, PA/South Allegheny), Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell), and Causgrove, Behrend fell 5-4.

In game two, Pinter scored three times in a 9-7 defeat to Monmouth.

After a 1-1 first period draw, the Hawks outscored the Lions 5-2 in a game-changing second quarter despite two Breanne Martinez (La Mirada, CA/St. Joseph) goals.

Pinter, Kelly, and Marissa Duvall (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) each scored in the fourth quarter for Behrend, but it proved to be too little too late as the Lions fell by two.

In the nightcap, Behrend fell to Connecticut College, 18-1.

Goalie Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) fired in the lone goal for the Lions.

Behrend will wrap up their trip to Washington, PA on March 31, taking on Carthage at 1 p.m. and Washington and Jefferson at 5 p.m.
