Lions Defeat Carthage; Split Pair at CWPA Regional Tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team split a pair of games on Sunday afternoon at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional Tournament at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

In game one, Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored three times and Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) added two goals to lead the Lions to a 7-6 upset victory over Carthage.

The Lady Reds were the topped-ranked team in the field of this weekend's Division III CWPA Tournament.

Trailing 3-2 at halftime, Behrend outscored Carthage 4-0 in the third quarter. Pinter scored twice in the period, and Paula Rusca (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) and Hannah Kelly (Elizabeth, PA/South Allegheny) each added a goal.

Causgrove scored the final goal of the contest for the Lions to help cement the victory.

In the final game of the tournament, the Lions fell to host school Washington & Jefferson, 11-4.

The Presidents got off to a hot start, leading 3-0 after one and 7-2 at halftime.

Kelly and Marissa Duvall (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) scored in the second quarter to put Behrend on the board.

Pinter and Causgrove added one goal apiece for the Lions.

Behrend will host Gannon on Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. at the Junker Center.
