Gannon Too Much for Women's Water Polo

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to Gannon 14-2 on Thursday night at the Junker Center pool.

The Knights scored twice in the first 3:06 to take control of the contest. Gannon eventually led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Knights put up four more goals in the first 4:26 of the second period to take an 8-0 advantage into the break.

Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored both of the Lions goals. The freshman floated in a beautiful lob shot in the closing seconds of the third quarter to put Behrend on the board. She then got the final goal of the contest – it came with just 1:07 remaining in the game.

Pinter has now scored a team-leading 33 goals on the season.

Goalie Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), the reigning Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Rookie of the Week, made several key stops for the Lions. The freshman even thwarted a second half Gannon penalty shot attempt.

The Knights were led by Shanen Lazenby, whose team-high three goals all came in the first half.

Behrend will host Washington & Jefferson and Grove City on Saturday, April 5 at 3 and 7:30 p.m.
