Comeback Falls Short at CWPA Championships

ST. PAUL, Mn. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell 7-4 to Monmouth on Sunday at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships at Riley Pool.

Marissa Duvall (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) scored twice for the Lions, who defeated the Fighting Scots 14-8 back on March 15.

Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored Behrend's first goal with 4:42 left in the first quarter.

The Lions trailed 3-1 after the opening session and 4-1 at the break.

Behrend, who trailed 6-1 entering the final frame, staged a ferocious late—game rally. Duvall fired in back-to-back Lions goals at 7:17 and 4:57 respectively to bring Behrend within three.

After a Fighting Scots score, Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) netted the game's final goal with 1:13 remaining to make it a 7-4 game.

Goalkeeper Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) capped off a brilliant freshman season with six saves for the Lions.
