Women's Water Polo Wins Twice at CWPA Regional
The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team won twice Saturday on the second day of action at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional. The Lions (3-8) defeated Monmouth 10-4 in the first game of the day and returned at night with a 6-5 nail biting victory over Macalester.
MONMOUTH, Il. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team won twice Saturday on the second day of action at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional. The Lions (3-8) defeated Monmouth 10-4 in the first game of the day and returned at night with a 6-5 nail biting victory over Macalester.
Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) scored a career-high five goals against Monmouth and led Behrend with three goals against Macalester. The Lions led Monmouth 6-2 at halftime and added four second-half goals to notch the victory.
Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) added three goals on the day while Taylor Reed (York, PA/Central York) chipped in two goals in the victory over Monmouth.
Tied at halftime, neither Behrend nor Macalester could push across a goal in the third quarter. Horn broke the tie at the 6:38 mark in the fourth quarter and the tacked on a second goal just 20 seconds later to give the Lions a two-goal lead. Macalester scored to make it 6-5, but the Behrend defense clamped down holding Macalester off the scoreboard for the final 6:07 of the game.
Kaitlyn Conely (Exeter, CA/Exeter) and Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored a goal each in the two games. Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) had a great day in the net making 25 saves and also netted a goal of her own.
The Lions have one more contest remaining in the CWPA Regional. Behrend will face Utica at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.
