Women's Water Polo Wins Third Straight

MONMOUTH, Il. - In the final day of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regionals, the Penn State Behrend women's water polo team increased their winning streak to three games with 5-3 victory over Utica. With the win the Lions (4-8) close out the regionals with a 3-2 record.

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) got Behrend on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 2:28 mark in the first quarter. The Lions tacked on two scores in the second quarter. Taylor Reed (York, PA/Central York) netted a goal less than a minute into the second quarter and Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) added a score with 6:21 left before halftime.

Utica (1-6) scored the first goal of the second half and held the Lions scoreless in the third quarter. With the lead cut to one in the fourth quarter, Alex Isaacson (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) notched a goal at the 6:01 mark in the fourth quarter. With just under two minutes to play, Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) sealed the game with a score that gave Behrend a three-goal lead.

The Lions defense played extremely well including Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) in the net. Stegmann made 11 saves and as a team Behrend held Utica to just three goals.

The Lions will be off until next Friday. Behrend will compete at the second round of the CWPA Regionals at Connecticut College. The Lions will take on Macalester in game one on Friday at 7 p.m.
