Lions Fall to Macalester, 7-3

NEW LONDON, Ct. - In the opening game of the second Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional's, the Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to Macalester, 7-3 snapping their three game winning streak.

Macalester (7-11) took a 3-1 lead to halftime after scoring the first two goals of the game in the first quarter. Macalester added three goals in the third quarter and held the Lions (4-9) scoreless to take a 6-1 advantage with just one frame left to play. Behrend added two goals in the fourth but the comeback attempt fell short.

Breanne Martinez (La Mirada, CA/St. Joseph) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) headlined the Lions offense. Martinez scored two goals while Horn added one.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) highlighted the Behrend defense with 10 saves in the net. She also picked up one steal.

The Lions will continue CWPA Regional action tomorrow with three games on the schedule. First at 9 a.m., Behrend will take on the host Connecticut College. At 3:15 p.m. the Lions return to face Monmouth. Lastly, at 7 p.m. Behrend will wrap up with Utica.
