Women's Water Polo Wins Twice, Falls to Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Ct. – Playing three games on the day, the Penn State Behrend women's water polo team went 2-1 in day two of the second Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional. The Lions (6-10) fell to the host team Connecticut College 12-0 to start the day, but rebounded with a 12-6 victory over Monmouth and a hard-fought 6-5 win over Utica in the night cap. With two victories on the day, Behrend tied the program's record for wins in a season with six.

Behrend's offense played well in the second game of the day in the 12-6 win over Connecticut College (12-10) with six different players netting scores.

Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Taylor Reed (York, PA/Central York) led the way each with three goals. The duo accounted for 10 total goals on the day, five apiece.

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) each scored twice while Kaitlyn Conely (Exeter, CA/Exeter) and Sarah Jelinek (Warren, PA/Warren) both chipped in a goal.

In game three, Behrend picked up a tight one-goal victory over Utica (2-11). The Lions took the early advantage notching two goals in the first quarter while holding Utica scoreless. Both teams pushed across a goal in the second sending the game to halftime with Behrend leading 3-1. Trailing 5-2 heading into the fourth frame, Utica scored three goals in the final quarter however saw their comeback attempt fall just short as the Lions were able to score one more time in the quarter for the victory.

Reed and Pinter led the team again in this game both with two goals. Horn added a goal while Lauren Rosato (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) pitched in a score for her only goal of the day.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) had a great day in the net making 23 saves and held Monmouth and Utica to only 11 goals in the final two games.

Now on a two-game winning streak, the Lions will look to set the progam's single season win mark tomorrow when they wrap up CWPA Regional play with a 9 a.m. matchup against Carthage.
