Mercyhurst Defeats Women's Water Polo

ERIE, Pa. – In the final home game of the 2015 season, the Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to cross-town rival Mercyhurst by a score of 10-0.

The Lions (6-12) played great on defense early in the game, coming up with defensive stands to keep the score even at zero. Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) helped to hold Mercyhurst (9-7) scoreless through the first 4:44 of the game, coming up with a few nice saves on breakaway opportunities. Stegmann finished the game with 10 total saves.

Mercyhurst netted five goals in each of the first and second quarters and held a 10-0 lead from halftime through the remainder of the game. The Lions defense did a good job holding the Lakers off the board in the second half, but were unable to come up with enough offense to mount a comeback.

Behrend will look to rebound tomorrow when they take on Gannon on the road. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.
