Women's Water Polo Sets Win Record; Defeats Monmouth, 15-7

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team set a new program record for wins in a season claiming their seventh win in a 15-7 victory over Monmouth in the seventh place game at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships Saturday afternoon.

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) scored seven goals in a contest that saw seven different Behrend players notch at least one goal.

The Lions (7-15) netted four goals in the first quarter and added five in the second to take a 9-2 lead at halftime. Monmouth (0-17) responded with four goals in the third, however Behrend still held a 10-6 advantage. The Lions notched five goals in the fourth to seal the historic victory.

Kaitlyn Conely (Exeter, CA/Exeter) followed a three-goal game earlier in the day with two goals in the season finale while Breanne Martinez (La Mirada, CA/St. Joseph) scored a goal and added a score on a penalty shot. Alex Isaacson, (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport) Taylor Reed, (York, PA/Central York) Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Allie Schneider (Erie, PA/McDowell) all chipped in one goal apiece.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) wrapped up her impressive season with four saves in the net for the Lions.

Behrend takes seventh place at CWPA Division III Championships and finished the season with a 7-15 record.
