Women's Water Polo Opens Season at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell twice on Saturday afternoon in the Bucknell Invitational.

The Lions squared off against Division I Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in game one. Behrend could not get on the scoreboard during the game, falling by a score of 17-0.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) made five saves in net, and held the Keydets to only two goals in the fourth quarter.

Scoring was widespread for VMI. Two players scored three goals, five tallied two and another added the final goal.

In the Lions' second match against another Division I program in No. 19 Wagner, Behrend once again could not find the back of the net. They lost 15-0 in this matchup. 

Defensively, the Lions held their own in the second half. After allowing 12 goals in the first half, including eight in the opening quarter, Behrend only allowed one goal in the third and two in the fourth to minimize damage.

Stegman mad six saves in the contest, bringing her total to 11 on the day. 

The Lions will travel to the west coast next Saturday, March 5 through Tuesday, March 8 for the Convergence Tournament. They open Saturday against Whittier with a 2:20 p.m. EST start.
