Caltech Edges Women's Water Polo 12-10

PASEDANA, Ca. — The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team was edged 12-10 by Caltech in their final game of the California road trip Tuesday evening.

The Lions (0-6) got out to an early 2-0 lead after goals by Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Clare Jefferys (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) 5:45 into the game.

Behrend and the Beavers (2-7) traded goals for the next seven minutes of action. From there, Caltech scored four straight goals to take a 7-5 advantage. Each team added another goal before the half to set up for an exciting finish.

Only two goals were scored in the third, two belonging to the Beavers to extend their lead to three.

Goals from Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills), Kaitlyn Conely (Exeter, CA/Exeter) and Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell) in the final period made a push towards the comeback, but Caltech tallied to more goals to seal the two-goal win.

Horn, Conely and Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) each notched two goals, while Wood, Jefferys, Causgrove and Taylor Reed (York, PA/Central York) each added one. Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) made four saves in net.

The Lions return to action Friday against Carthage in the CWPA Regional Tournament hosted by Carthage. Their first game starts at 11:20 a.m.
