Carthage, Monmouth Top Women's Water Polo

KENOSHA, Wi. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell twice to start the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Regional Tournament Saturday, hosted by Carthage College. They lost to Carthage 18-7 and then fell to Monmouth 13-9.

Game one against the Lady Reds (8-0) was a tight match for the first half of the first quarter before Carthage was able to start to pull away.

A goal 1:49 in put the Lions (0-7) down one, but quick goals by Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Kaitlyn Conely (Exeter, CA/Exeter) put them up 2-1.

The Lady Reds outscored Behrend 9-2 to close out the rest of the first half to take a commanding lead. Horn, Mary Therese Causgrove (Erie, PA/McDowell), and Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored to try and keep the Lions in the game, but Carthage was too much to stop.

In game two against Monmouth (3-3), the Lions fell behind 2-0 early in the first quarter before Causgrove scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 2-all.

Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) then scored to give Behrend their first lead of the game. Horn added a fourth goal in the high scoring first quarter.

The Fighting Scots went on a 6-2 run through the next two quarters to take a 10-6 advantage. Pinter and Taylor Reed (York, PA/Central York) tallied goals to keep the Lions in the match.

Monmouth would not give way in the fourth as goals were even at three. Conely, Reed and Pinter all added goals in the final frame.

Behrend is back in action against Connecticut College at 9 a.m. and Macalester at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
