Gannon Defeats Women's Water Polo

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team fell to one of their cross-town rivals Gannon by the score of 9-3.

Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell), Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) each scored for the Lions (4-14) against the Golden Knight (5-10) defense.

Behrend looked like they were going to have a strong game after Pinter scored the game's first goal just 24 seconds into the matchup. The Lions held their 1-0 advantage for the next three and a half minutes before Gannon got their offense going.

They scored nine consecutive goals, spanning from 4:02 in the first quarter to 4:20 in the third quarter before Wood would stop the bleeding with just under two minutes left in the third.

Behrend held off any more Knight chances and added a third tally with 28 seconds remaining in the game to end the night on a high note.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), the current Behrend Athlete of the Week, was superb in net, making save after save to keep the Lions in the game while giving them a chance to cut their deficit.
