Women's Water Polo Fall Twice at Convergence Tournament

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Penn State Behend women's water polo team dropped a pair of games today in the Convergence Tournament hosted by Pomona-Pitzer. Behend fell to Redlands 14-6 and 12-2 to Occidental.

In game one against the Bulldogs (2-4), the Lions (0-5) fell behind early and were never able to climb back into the game.

Redlands jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game. The Bulldog's Olivia Allen tallied the first two goals to help get a rally going for her team. Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) finally got Behrend on the board with just five seconds remaining in the first quarter to make it a 5-1 game. Clare Jeffreys (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) was awarded the assist.

Jeffreys then scored a goal of her own to open up the second quarter, but Redlands responded with two straight to make it a 7-2 game. Horn added a late goal again to take a 7-3 deficit into the half.

The Bulldogs overpowered the Lions in the second half with seven different Redlands players recording goals. Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills/IL/Vernon Hills), Jennesa Islas-Parker (Palatine, IL/Frema), and Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) each added second-half goals for Behrend.

The Lions offense struggeld to get things going in game two. The Tigers managed to outscore Behrend by a 6-1 margin in each half.

Parker and Jeffreys scored the lone goals for the Lions.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Southerton Area) and Hollyrae Hanson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) split time in net throughout the day. Stegman made 10 saves while Hanson recorded nine.
