Women's Water Polo Falls to La Verne

CLAREMONT, Ca. -The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team was defeated by La Verne today, 12-4.

The Lions (0-6) and Leopards (5-3) traded a pair of goals to get the game started. Alison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford) and Clair Jeffreys (Erie, PA/McDowell) each scored in response to two goals from La Verne's Guarina Garcia.

Garcia finished with a game-high four goals for the Leopards.

La Verne then added one more to finish the first quarter with a 3-2 lead. Behrend was then  outscored 3-0 in the second quarter to fall behind 6-2 at halftime.

The Lions struggled to get the offense going to start the second half and the Leopords capitalized by adding three more goals to their lead.

Jenessa Islas-Parker (Paletine, IL/Frema) scored with ten second remaining in the third to make the score 9-3 heading into the final eight minutes.

Jeffreys scored one more in the fourth to round out the scoring for Behrend and finished the game with three steals.

The Leopards forced 24 Behrend turnovers and outshot the Lions 41-19 throughout the course of the game.

Behrend will look to put a game in the winning column tomorrow when they take on Cal Tech at 5 p.m. PST.
