Lions Fall in Overtime to Macalaster

NEW LONDON, Ct. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team lost a hard-fought game in overtime Sunday afternoon to Macalaster, 10-8.

Clare Jefferys (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) forced overtime after scoring a goal from mid-pool with two seconds remaining in regulation. The Lions (2-12) however, were outscored 3-1 in the overtime period.

Behrend and Macalaster battled a back and forth game that consisted of seven ties and four lead changes.

After Jefferys late heroics, Brittany Pinter (Erie, PA/McDowell) netted the first overtime goal to give the Lions an 8-7 lead. The Scots answered with one of their own to tie the game up at 8-all. After switching sides, Macalaster scored two straight and held Behrend off the board to take the two-goal win.  

Jefferys finished with three goals to pace the Lions offense. She also added an assist and one drawn kickout.

Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, IL/Vernon Hills) added two goals on five shots while Alison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford) and Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) each added one.

McClure also added a team-high five steals while wood added three.

Kara Stegmann (Harleysville, PA/Southerton Area) made nine saves in goal.

The Lions will be back at home this Friday when they host Grove City at 7:30 p.m.
