W&J Defeats Women's Water Polo

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's water polo team lost to Washington & Jefferson Sunday afternoon, 11-8.

The Lions (3-15) took an early lead over the Presidents (11-3), but fell behind after a slow start the the second half.

Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) open up the scoring with a goal just one minute into the game. Lauren Wood (Vernon Hills, PA/Vernon Hills) and Alison McClure (Loveland, OH/Milford) each added one to give Behrend a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

W&J began to pick up momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Behrend 4-2 to take a one goal lead into halftime. Clare Jefferys (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) added her first of two goals in the quarter.

The Lions struggled to get the offense going in the third quarter, being outscored 4-0. The presidents added four goals to to add a five goal cushion to their lead heading in to the final eight minutes.

Horn added two more goals in the fourth quarter and Jefferys added one, but it wasnt enough to overcome the W&J lead.

Horn finished the day with three goals while Jefferys and Wood each added two.

Behrend will be back in the water this Saturday against Monmouth at 3 p.m. in the first game of the CWPA Regional Tournament.
